Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine were a group of colored students who attended a desegregated school in Little Rock, Arkansas . As the Civil Rights Movement grew and desegregation became more of an issue, Little Rock High school became desegregated. So when these nine young and brave colored students decided to go to a previously all white school, they were picked on pretty badly. Other students would throw food on them as they walked to class and it got so bad the the president decided to send in the National Guard! These students decided to stand up for their education and they got political support from the White House. Even though the social situation at Little Rock High school wasn’t good for these students, they were still able to learn. The picture shown is of the students when they graduated. They overcame their situation in this one example of positive desegregation.
