Freedom. What does it mean? In definition, it means to be able to speak, act, and think as you wish without any boundaries. The U.S claims to equal laws of freedom for all. When you think about it, there are double standards between us black’s and those who are white. So, are we really free? It’s wrong to not feel at home in our own country. We must drink from different water fountains, use different restrooms, and go to different schools. We are spat upon. Is this right? Of course not! We are supposed to feel at home in our home but instead, we are being discriminated against. It’s time to show those white’s that they are wrong. We aren’t that different from them! We should have the freedom to use the same restrooms, water fountains, schools and more. Equality is what we deserve! Instead of letting them treat us like trash, we show them that we are stronger and that we deserve much better! We must feel equal and must have the same rights as those who make us feel less. Change will only come if we ask for it; if we fight for it. We must fight for it, but without violence. If they inflict violence on us, we must let them and fight with our words. Beating our opposition; inflicting violence upon them only makes us the bad guys. Let them be unfair and unjust through violence because it shows the worst of them. Show that you are strong enough to fight with words and that you are a part of this country, your home. Leave them with nothing bad to say about us blacks. Make them feel proud about us, but only through your words. Make yourself feel proud about who you are. Fight long and hard because change will come, but only if you enforce it. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi” – Pourna Sengupta
